The PS5 needs an M.2 NVMe PCIe Gen4 SSD with a read speed of at least 5,500 MB/s and a heatsink, in capacities from 250GB up to 8TB (Sony supports up to 8TB via firmware). 1TB is the recommended minimum and 2TB is the sweet spot. SATA SSDs and older PCIe Gen3 drives are not supported. Installing an M.2 SSD does not void the warranty. You can fit a Gen5 drive, but it runs at Gen4 speed in the PS5, so there is no benefit.
