Sabrent's PS5 heatsink replaces the console's metal bay cover instead of sitting under it, turning the whole cover into the cooler. 6 are in stock new, from £8.99. The test for any of them is the same: with the drive attached, no more than 11.25mm thick and 25mm wide.
PS5 requirements as published in Sony's M.2 SSD support page. Prices from Amazon.co.uk.
The limits a PS5 heatsink has to meet
| Dimension | Limit |
|---|---|
| Drive plus heatsink, total | Up to 11.25mm |
| Above the board | Up to 8.0mm |
| Below the board | Up to 2.45mm |
| Width | Up to 25mm |
From Sony's M.2 SSD requirements. A bare M.2 drive is about 2.2 to 3.5mm thick, which leaves roughly 7mm for a top heatsink and its pad.
What to look for
Because it replaces the cover, the usual 11.25mm stack limit applies differently: the heatsink is the lid. It was designed for the original PS5, so confirm Sabrent's compatibility list for your console model.
These are listed on the strength of their own product titles, not on measurements of ours. Prices here run from £8.99 upward. Look for a stated assembled height on the listing, and pass over any that do not give one.
The table gives a heatsink's height only where its title or feature list states one. Fits PS5 means a stated height of 8.0mm or less, which is all Sony allows above the circuit board. From 8.0mm to 11.25mm the mark reads Check total height with your drive, and anything over 11.25mm is marked Too tall. Of the 6 listed today, 0 fit, 0 need checking against your drive, 0 are too tall and 6 state no height. The 8.0mm also has to cover the drive's own chips and the thermal pad, so with a cooler close to that figure, look for a listing that says its height includes them.

Frequently asked questions
What is the height limit for a PS5 SSD heatsink?
11.25mm for the whole stack, of which at most 8.0mm may sit above the circuit board. For a separate top heatsink the 8.0mm is what counts, and the drive's chips and the pad come out of it.
Which heatsink here costs least today?
Steam Deck SSD Heatsink Thermal Pad: Haojiaho M.2 2230 NVME SSD Graph... at £8.99, with no height stated in its listing, as of 21 October 2026.
Are thermal pads necessary?
Yes. Without a pad there is an air gap and the heatsink does little. Use the pad supplied, at the thickness intended, and remember to peel off its protective film.
Is a premium heatsink worth it for speed?
Not for speed. Any heatsink that fits and makes good contact does the job, which is to keep the drive from throttling.
