Either works. Copper conducts heat better than aluminium, but in a PS5 the heatsink sits in a small covered bay with limited airflow, so the material makes little practical difference. Fit, contact with the drive through a thermal pad, and staying inside the 11.25mm limit matter far more. Most PS5 heatsinks are aluminium.

Frequently asked questions
Is a copper heatsink worth paying more for in a PS5?
Rarely. The bay's limited airflow evens out the difference.
Are factory-fitted heatsinks copper or aluminium?
Mostly aluminium.
Do heat pipes help in a PS5?
Some PS5 heatsinks use them to carry heat toward the console's airflow. Check which console model such a design is made for.
Does colour or coating matter?
Not meaningfully for cooling.
