The M.2 expansion slot is inside the console, under a removable side cover. Lift the cover off and you will see a long rectangular metal lid held by a single screw; the slot is beneath it. The layout is the same idea on the PS5, PS5 Slim and PS5 Pro, with the cover removal differing slightly.

Getting to the slot
Model-specific cover steps are in Sony's M.2 SSD requirements.
- Switch off, unplug every cable and let the console cool.
- Remove the stand or feet and lay the console flat.
- Lift off the side cover as shown in Sony's instructions for your model.
- Undo the one screw on the rectangular expansion slot cover and lift it away. The M.2 connector and the row of spacer holes are underneath.
What you will find in the bay
A connector at one end, a spacer fitted at the 80mm position, and a screw. The spacer moves to suit other drive lengths: see PS5 SSD screw size. The full job is in how to install a PS5 SSD.
