You do not need to buy a screw. The PS5 ships with the M.2 screw and its spacer already fitted in the expansion bay, at the 80mm position. You need a #1 Phillips or cross-head screwdriver. Sony does not publish the screw's thread size, so if you lose it, buy a replacement sold specifically as a PS5 M.2 screw rather than guessing.
PS5 requirements as published in Sony's M.2 SSD support page. Prices from Amazon.co.uk.
What is in the bay
| Part | Where | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Slot cover screw | On the rectangular metal lid | Holds the lid over the slot |
| Spacer | In the 80mm hole as supplied | Supports the end of the drive at the right height |
| Drive screw | In the spacer | Fastens the drive to the spacer |
Moving the spacer
For a drive that is not 80mm long, unscrew the spacer and move it to the hole marked 30, 42, 60 or 110. See 2230 and 2242 SSDs in a PS5. Fit the drive at an angle first, then press it down onto the spacer and screw it in.
