Buying a PS5 SSD comes down to five checks: it is a PCIe Gen4 M.2 NVMe drive, it reads at 5,500 MB/s or more, it is the right size for you (2TB for most), it has a heatsink that fits or you add one, and its price per terabyte is competitive. Best value today: BIWIN M350 2TB SSD at £199.99 (£100.00/TB), as of 21 October 2026. The lowest price outright is £75.99, for the Ediloca 500GB NVMe M.2 SSD PCIe Gen 4x4.
PS5 requirements as published in Sony's M.2 SSD support page. Prices from Amazon.co.uk.

What not to pay extra for
Gen5 speed, which the console cannot use. A licence badge, unless the certainty is worth it to you. Very high endurance ratings, which console use does not approach. Each has its own page: Gen5, licensed drives, endurance.
