The Gen5 premium at 4TB
Set the best price on this page against the best on the main 4TB page. Whatever the gap is, it buys speed a PS5 cannot use, so it is money well spent only when a Gen5 PC will share the drive.
Heat is the other consideration. Listings whose bundled cooler is too tall for the console are excluded here, and a bare Gen5 drive should be paired with a well-made slim heatsink.

Frequently asked questions
Can I fit a 4TB Gen5 drive in my PS5?
You can. A Gen5 drive falls back to the Gen4 link the console provides and works normally at that speed.
How much does a 4TB Gen5 SSD cost today?
Cheapest today: Acer Predator GM9000 4TB SSD at £518.99 (£129.75/TB), as of 21 October 2026.
Will a 4TB Gen5 drive load games quicker?
Not in the console. Its slot is Gen4, which puts a Gen5 drive and a fast Gen4 drive on equal terms. The extra speed needs a Gen5 PC.
Does a 4TB Gen5 SSD need special cooling?
It needs what every PS5 drive needs, a low-profile heatsink, and benefits from a good one because Gen5 controllers produce more heat. Tall PC coolers supplied with some Gen5 drives do not fit.
