The T-Force Z540 in a PS5: what to know
TeamGroup rates the 2TB and 4TB models at 12,400 MB/s read and 11,800 MB/s write, and the 1TB at 11,700 and 9,500 MB/s, with 600 TBW per terabyte. Gen5 controllers run hot, so a proper slim heatsink matters in the PS5 bay.
The TeamGroup T-Force Z540 is a PCIe Gen5 drive, and the PS5 expansion bay is a Gen4 slot. The drive negotiates down and behaves like a fast Gen4 drive in the console, so its 12,400 MB/s rating is never reached there. It makes sense only if the drive will also live in a Gen5 PC. More in is a Gen5 SSD worth it for the PS5.
Heatsink and fit
The TeamGroup T-Force Z540 is sold bare, with no factory heatsink version. Sony requires a heat dissipation structure, so add a low-profile M.2 heatsink that keeps the total under 11.25mm. Sony's limit is 11.25mm total thickness and 25mm width (see Sony's M.2 SSD requirements).
See standalone PS5 heatsinks for coolers that fit, or the 11.25mm height guide for the rule in full.
