Why the TeamGroup MP33 does not work

The PS5's M.2 slot needs a PCIe Gen4 x4 NVMe drive (see Sony's M.2 SSD requirements). The TeamGroup MP33 is a PCIe Gen3 drive, so the console refuses it: it will not be formatted and cannot store or run games. No setting changes this.

TeamGroup's spec sheet lists PCIe 3.0 x4 at up to 1,800 MB/s read. The MP44 is TeamGroup's Gen4 drive that the PS5 accepts.

The nearest drive that meets the spec

Still shopping? The TeamGroup MP44 reads at 7,000 MB/s and passes. If the brand does not matter, the cheapest PS5 SSDs and the best value PS5 SSDs rank everything that does.

Already own the MP33? Put it to work in a PC, or in a USB enclosure as external storage. The console's slot is closed to it.
