Why the Silicon Power UD90 falls short
Two tests matter. Interface: the Silicon Power UD90 is Gen4, so it passes. Speed: it is rated at 5,000 MB/s, and Sony's M.2 SSD requirements recommend 5,500 MB/s or more, so it does not.
Most games will play. The console reports the measured read speed once formatting finishes, which tells you where you stand. Titles that pull data very quickly are where a slower drive can add loading time. On this site such drives sit in a "below spec" table apart from the ranking.
Silicon Power lists 5,000 MB/s read from 500GB upward and 4,800 MB/s write at 1TB and 2TB. The US75 is the model that clears the recommendation.
What to buy instead
The like-for-like swap is the Silicon Power XS70, rated at 7,300 MB/s. To shop on price alone among drives that pass, use the cheapest PS5 SSDs or the best value PS5 SSDs.
Already own the UD90? There is no need to bin it. Install it, note the read speed the console reports, and judge by how your games behave.
Cooling the UD90 in a PS5
For reference, Sony's M.2 SSD requirements allow a module up to 11.25mm thick and 25mm wide. The Silicon Power UD90 ships without a heatsink, so the cooler is yours to add and must keep the stack inside those figures.
Start with the 11.25mm height guide, then pick from standalone PS5 heatsinks.
Where to go next
To check a different drive, use the PS5 SSD model index or the Silicon Power page. The criteria themselves are in PS5 SSD requirements and which SSD is compatible with the PS5, and installation faults are covered in PS5 SSD not detected.
