Frequently asked questions
Does the Seagate Game Drive work with a PS5?
Yes. It is sold for exactly this job. The licence does not change the rules, though: a Game Drive archives PS5 games and plays PS4 ones, the same as any USB drive.
Which listing here is the best value right now?
Cheapest today: Seagate Game Drive for Xbox 5TB at £134.99 (£27.00/TB), as of 21 October 2026.
Which PS5 USB port should it go in?
It needs a SuperSpeed port, which on the original PS5 means the front USB-C socket or either rear USB-A socket, not the front USB-A one.
Do PS4 downloads have to go to the console first?
No. In storage settings you can send PS4 games straight to the USB drive, where they also run.
Can I move it between two PlayStation consoles?
Yes. Sony says a drive formatted as extended storage on a PS4 or a different PS5 can be used without formatting it again.
