Why the Netac NV5000 falls short
The Netac NV5000 passes the interface check, being Gen4 NVMe, so the console formats it. Where it falls short is speed: 5,000 MB/s against the 5,500 MB/s that Sony's M.2 SSD requirements recommend, a gap of 500 MB/s.
It is usable rather than recommended. After its read test the PS5 may warn that the speed is under the recommended figure, and you can continue regardless. We keep drives like this out of the main ranking and list them as "below spec".
Netac lists 5,000 MB/s read for the 2TB model and 4,800 MB/s for 500GB and 1TB. The NV7000 is Netac's model that clears the recommendation.
A close alternative that passes
Still shopping? The Netac NV7000 reads at 7,200 MB/s and passes. If the brand does not matter, the cheapest PS5 SSDs and the best value PS5 SSDs rank everything that does.
Already own the NV5000? Fit it and see. Nothing is at risk, and if loading feels fine to you there is no reason to replace it.
Does the NV5000 need a heatsink?
A heatsink version of the Netac NV5000 exists, but we have not been able to confirm its height against the 11.25mm limit, so we mark those listings "Check height" rather than "Fits PS5". For reference, Sony's M.2 SSD requirements allow a module up to 11.25mm thick and 25mm wide.
The safe route is the bare version with a low-profile heatsink you choose yourself, as covered in the 11.25mm height guide.
More on compatibility
To check a different drive, use the PS5 SSD model index or the Netac page. The criteria themselves are in PS5 SSD requirements and which SSD is compatible with the PS5, and installation faults are covered in PS5 SSD not detected.
