Crucial T705 and PS5 compatibility
One of the fastest Gen5 drives. Its factory heatsink is a tall PC design at roughly 20.5mm, nearly double Sony's 11.25mm ceiling. Only the bare version with a slim heatsink can go in a PS5.
One caveat applies to every Gen5 drive, this one included: Sony's slot is Gen4. In a PS5 the Crucial T705 links at Gen4 speed and its 14,500 MB/s headline figure goes unused. Buy it for the console only if it will later move to a Gen5 PC. See is a Gen5 SSD worth it for the PS5.
Will it fit under the PS5 cover?
The Crucial T705's factory cooler is made for PC motherboards and stands about 20.5mm high. That is far beyond what the PS5 bay allows, and the cover cannot go back on. For reference, Sony's M.2 SSD requirements allow a module up to 11.25mm thick and 25mm wide.
Buy the bare drive and add a slim heatsink. The oversized heatsink listings are excluded from this page's table. What does fit is covered in the 11.25mm height guide.
