ADATA Legend 970 and PS5 compatibility
A Gen5 PC drive. ADATA's datasheet gives 80.6 x 24.2 x 17.9mm with the pre-installed heatsink, whose fan also needs a SATA power lead the console cannot supply. Even bare, the PS5 would run it at Gen4 speed.
Will it fit under the PS5 cover?
The ADATA Legend 970's factory cooler is made for PC motherboards and stands about 17.9mm high. That is far beyond what the PS5 bay allows, and the cover cannot go back on. For reference, Sony's M.2 SSD requirements allow a module up to 11.25mm thick and 25mm wide.
Buy the bare drive and add a slim heatsink. The oversized heatsink listings are excluded from this page's table. What does fit is covered in the 11.25mm height guide.
