Quick answer

The PS5 Slim has 1TB built in (about 848GB shown in the storage menu). Adding a 1TB M.2 SSD brings the total to about 1,848GB, room for roughly 24 big games at an average of 75GB each, against 11 on the console alone. The PS5 Slim's M.2 bay sits under the upper side panel and uses the same slot as every other PS5. Cheapest today: Kingston NV3 NVMe PCIe 4.0 Internal SSD 1TB M.2 2280-SNV3S/1000G at £129.98 (£129.98/TB), as of 21 October 2026.

Is 1TB the right add-on for a PS5 Slim?

The Slim's 1TB fills fast once a few 100GB games are installed. A 1TB drive roughly doubles it.

Nothing about the PS5 Slim changes what fits. Sony's M.2 SSD requirements set 11.25mm of thickness and 25mm of width for every model. Of the 98 1TB drives in stock, 30 have a heatsink fitted and 11 are tagged "Fits PS5".

Frequently asked questions

How much storage will a PS5 Slim have with a 1TB SSD?

About 1,848GB: 848GB usable built in plus 1,000GB on the M.2 drive. That is room for roughly 24 big games at an average of 75GB each.

What is the cheapest 1TB SSD for the PS5 Slim?

Cheapest today: Kingston NV3 NVMe PCIe 4.0 Internal SSD 1TB M.2 2280-SNV3S/1000G at £129.98 (£129.98/TB), as of 21 October 2026.

It is. Every PS5 model takes M.2 SSDs between 250GB and 8TB.
