2TB is the largest size commonly sold as an Xbox Series X|S expansion card. Unlike the PS5, the Xbox Series X|S does not take a standard M.2 drive: it uses a plug-in expansion card. Cheapest today: Seagate 2TB Xbox Storage Expansion Card | PCIe Gen4 NVMe at £517.97 (£258.99/TB), as of 21 October 2026.
The detail
At 2TB the card usually costs more per terabyte than a PS5-style M.2 drive, because only two makers produce the proprietary format.
For comparison, external USB storage on these consoles is for archiving current games and playing older ones. Only the built-in drive and the expansion card can run Series X|S titles.
